How the War on Terror Has Militarized the Police

Before 9/11, the usual heavy weaponry available to a small-town police officer consisted of a standard pump-action shot gun, perhaps a high power rifle, and possibly a surplus M-16, which would usually have been kept in the trunk of the supervising officer's vehicle.

meepNinja, Wotak, and I had a nice conversation about this as we drove around Uniontown this past spring.

We were discussing that if the US ever has an armed revolution it'll be cops, not soldiers, out there gunning down the citizenry. Soldiers are indoctrinated every day of their careers that they are PROTECTING the citizens of the US, whereas cops are out there shooting, beating, tazing, and framing US citizens every single day.
